Fired from her waitress job and with her acting career stalled, Rebecca Spade agrees to join Johnny, president of the Road Raptors Motorcycle Club, on their Memorial Day Run to a private ranch in the arid interior of California. Instead of a wild, get-away-from-it-all weekend, she finds herself a pawn in a deadly war between two outlaw biker clubs. To survive as a captive of the ruthless sociopath, Juggler, Rebecca will have to give the performance of her life. But even her best efforts might not keep her alive long enough for Johnny to rescue her–if Johnny is able, or even interested, in saving her.

This is not the sort of book I ordinarily read, and I knew nothing about the biker world, but Larry pulled me in, using the experiences and voice of Rebecca, who begins as much a novice in this world as I was. The characters are strong, the conflict exciting and the love story set against a dynamic and violent backdrop, made it a great read.

My comfort zone for fiction seldom features motorcycle clubs, guys named Johnny, or raptors of any sort. But this entertaining, fast-paced romp through the biker world in the California desert with an out-of-work actress/waitress named Becky kept me reading long past my afternoon reading hour. Part romance, part adventure, part apocalyptic battle between good and evil, this book had me grinning, laughing out loud, and marveling that the author could write that female protagonist with authenticity, humor and horror.
